St. James' CE Primary School

How to join our school (Admissions)

DURING COVID-19 please read and apply to our current Admissions policy. Please also note the adjustment to the Appeals Arrangements, as outlined in the DfE statement set out below.

If your child was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017, your child is due to start primary school in September 2021.

Our pupil admission number (PAN) is 60; 20 places are allocated for church membership and are applied for using the church supplementary form (see attachment below)  and the remaining 40 are allocated as per our admissions criteria as stipulated in our Admissions Policy,  attached below. A map outlining the boundary of the admissions area is also attached below.

Appeals Arrangements:

As you know, in April 2020 temporary regulations (The School Admissions (England) (Coronavirus) (Appeals Arrangements) (Amendment) Regulations 2020) and accompanying guidance were introduced giving admission authorities, local authorities and admission appeal panels more flexibility when dealing with appeals during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The main changes are that appeal hearings can be heard by telephone or video conference or appeals can be decided on the basis of written submissions only; and the statutory timescales have been amended.

The temporary regulations were due to expire on 31 January 2021 but due to the ongoing nature of the outbreak and the social distance rules, we have introduced another set of temporary regulations (The School Admissions (England) (Coronavirus) (Appeals Arrangements) (Amendment) Regulations 2021) which extend the temporary provisions until 30 September 2021. These came into force on 31 January 2021 and updated guidance has been published. The updates are to reflect the change in date, there are no changes to policy or process.

The temporary regulations and guidance only apply where it is not reasonably practicable to comply with the School Admission Appeals Code for a reason relating to the incidence or transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). Therefore, any extension will not mean the flexibility will be available for all admission authorities to use all the time. It will mean the temporary arrangements are available to use when they are needed – when they are not, the duty to comply with the The Schools Admission (Appeal Arrangements) (England) Regulations 2012 and the School Admission Appeals Code remains.

In year Applications

Applications which are received for places for year groups other than for Reception are subject to the school Admissions Policy.  If there is no vacancy, applicants are put on a waiting list.  The Supplementary Form is only necessary if you are applying for a Church place.‚Äč

If you are applying for a place and your child attends another Southwark school you must complete an in-year transfer form (see below) and have it stamped and signed by their current school and leave it at either site for the attention of Mrs. Brenta, who will contact you should a place become available or if we need further information.

Information about 'in year applications' for Reception to Y6 children can be found below

Please read the flow chart from Southwark if you are applying for an in-year transfer which explains the procedure.
