  • Celebrate World Book Day - Friday 6th March

    Published 05/03/26

Welcome to World Book Day at St James! We hope you enjoy dressing as your favourite book character and seeing how many you can identify from the outfits of your friends and teachers.  Illustrator and Author Clara Vulliamy will be taking a whole school assembly.

We hope you have a wonderful time celebrating the joy of reading in whatever form it might take, from fantastic stories to exciting factual accounts, finding out information from the past and discovering new ideas for the future, providing laughter and helping to understand the experiences of others, from being engrossed in a story alone or sharing it with family and friends.

Don't forget to download your WBD £1 voucher to spend at your local bookshop which is attached below, together with some ideas and resources to help you explore, create and understand the power of storytelling.

Also attached are some PDFs with links to story-telling activities, some read-aloud tales and a book quiz, book bingo and wordsearch. Thank you for these fantastic resources which have been created by Miss S; she can be found on Instagram at @thisgeordieteaches , Parrot Street Book Club and Pobble365

  • Latest Newsletter - Friday 6th March 2026

    Published 05/03/26

A lovely week in school – all children have used the same picture book ‘Hike’ to create a shared story and illustrations which we’ll have published in the form of big books at both sites. We have welcomed author/illustrator Clara Vulliamy into school to deliver assemblies to all children as part of our World Book Day celebrations.  It’s also wonderful to see such great enthusiasm with a super range of costumes on display! We’ve had some very well-attended coffee mornings/parent workshops and tours this week too – great to see everyone who was in attendance for these.

Our Collective Worship theme for this half term continues with the Gospel according to Mark, discussing Jesus’s life in the run up to Easter. This week we’ve looked at Jesus as a healer, some of the parables he told, and also one of his miracles – the Feeding of the 5,000.

Our full newsletter and diary date sheet is attached below together with your World Book Day voucher.

Wishing you and our whole community a lovely weekend!
God bless, from the St. James’ team

It’s great to be back following Spring half term – children have hit the ground running with new books and topics and have been focusing their attention on their History learning this week. Practitioners from King’s College continue to visit for medical workshops with the children, library visits have re-commenced, our Year 6 Scholars' Programme students attended their graduation at UCL, and Music, PE and Performing Arts lessons all continue to go well.

Our Collective Worship theme for this half term will look at the Gospel according to Mark, discussing Jesus’s life in the run up to Easter. This week we’ve looked at John the Baptist and how Jesus encouraged his disciples to follow and help him in his work.

We attach below our full newsletter which includes details of our upcoming EY Parent Workshop, World Book Day, Easter Egg Tombola and PE Kit reminders for the Spring half term. Also attached is our diary dates sheet, a flyer regarding an event this weekend at The Blue and home learning resources from the Children's Literacy Charity.
