St. James' CE Primary School

2 France - Miss Hannaway's Class

Hello and Welcome to Year 2's Page.

As we begin to think about moving into Year 3, we have started to look at our identity. We have been writing positive notes to our classmates in their special jars and we are excited to read them at the end of the Year.

We are in the process of writing raps 'All about me!'. We want to showcase our best qualities and remember that we can do anything if we try!

Summer Term

This term we have been learning all about Bees. We have created some wonderful fact files and we know that Bees are super important in environment. Ask us some questions at home and we will teach you why we need to save the bees!

Spring Term

So far in the Spring Term, we have loved learning all about The Great Fire of London and all about The Plague. We even made some cures fpr the Plague just like the Plague Doctor!! We made delicious bread rolls just like they would have made in Pudding Lane Bakery.

In maths we have been focusing on measurement and we will be shortly moving on to Two and Three dimensional shapes.

Spring Term 1 and 2

We hope you have had a lovely, relaxing holiday and Year 2 France have come back buzzing to learn about London in the past. This term, we will be learning all about what life was like in the 1600s and in the 1800s.

We will be looking at the Great Fire of London and the Great Plague. We were looking enough to attend the Musuem of London and took part in an exciting story telling workshop all about The Great Fire of London. Look at our pictures and ask us all about it.

Queen Victoria ruled during the 19th Centuary and we will be learning all about her life. We will also look at life for children in a Victorian School. We are very intrigued to hear how life was different back then.

If you would like to complete any projects on London in the past, please do so and bring them for the whole class to see. Here are some examples.

We have really enjoyed learning all about the dark and nocturnal animals. We have done many exciting science investigations and we are no longer afraid of the dark. We know that we need the dark in our lives.

We ended our topic with our exciting green trip; seeing and learning about nocturnal animals. We got to hold and touch some of them. It was amazing!!

The boys and girls in Year 2 France have worked extremely hard and deserve a restful holiday.

The Dark

We have really enjoyed learning all about 'The Dark' and particular looking at our Novel 'The Dark' by Lemony Snicket. Look at some of our wonderful story boxes that we have created in groups.

Our favourite experiment was looking at what we can see in the dark. We have found our that darkness is the absence of light and therefore, we can not see as clearly in the dark. We used our dark tent to look at three colours to investigate which we could see clearer. We discovered that bright colours can be seen more clearly in the dark than darker colours.

Autumn 2

'What is darkness?'. We have looked at three books in particular.

The Dark by Lemony Snicket

The Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and Patrick Benson.

The Owl who was afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson.

We have focused on creative pieces of writing about the dark as well as looking at a variety of nocturnal animals and learning about how they live their lives.

Half Term

We have had a fantastic first half term in Year 2 France. We really enjoyed the many wonderful activities over the last week such as African drumming, our trip to see the orchestra and our green trip to the bank of England. Have a wonderful week off and rest up!

P Factor

We really enjoyed showcasing our wonderful acting talent that is in our class. We performed the poem 'Ning Nang Nong' by Spike Milligan. We loved adding actions to the words and creating something different with the poem.

Autumn 1

In this half term we have been learning all about the wonderful continent of Africa. We have been doing a lot of fun and interesting activities which you can see in our photo galleries. We have explored African music and dance and have looked at the similarities and differences of African Masks within the different countires.

The two books we have been exploring this half term are

Lila and the Secret of Rain

Zeraffa Giraffa

By using these books, we have created some great pieces of work using our imaginations to innovate and invent new stories.
