Search for Blood Stem Cell Donors in London
Many of you may have seen page 28 of the Evening Standard on Wednesday, which outlined the plight of a London deputy headteacher who is seeking a stem cell donor following a diagnosis of leukaemia.
This story has served to highlight the very real shortage of donors. All Londoners are urged to sign up with the Anthony Nolan charity to join the register of donors, just a saliva sample is all that is needed. There is a huge lack of awareness about stem cell donation; about 2000 people in the UK need a stem cell transplant from a stranger every year and there is a particular need from those with black, asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
